About Me

Hi World!

ginny mangrum fine art photographer

My name is ginny mangrum, I am an idea driven art photographer who paints ideas with any type of camera or digital software’s that can best express my concept.   I am a native San Franciscan from the Bay Area who recently  transplanted with  my work in the New York City Metro Area.  I  respectfully gave a nod to my foundational work of ten years that focused on a concept examining "aloneness" felt within empty spaces referred to as  "presence of absence”. It explored ways to express static contemplations of being alone.  More recently, following a heart transplant, I have discovered a new perspective on how I view spaces around me. An appreciation for being alive and new found gratitude gave way to the idea of aloneness versus  "loneliness" as examined with previous contemplations. This new exploration includes color, nature’s role within spaces as well,   The work is committed to finding  beauty and the joy of seasons versus the more nostalgic contemplative black and white images.

My top visual influences using photography  Todd Hide and Painter, Agnus Martin. Moreover, two other thoughtful conceptual artists are photographers Catherine Wagner and Larry Sultan. A California colorists Richard Diebenkorn's  and New York's  Edward Hopper's approach to their practices are embedded.

The art making process involves choices appropriate to the concept; large and small, black, and white with muted color as well highly saturated images based on the concept of minimalistic empty spaces creating stress, tension, and calm. I consider the camera to be a tool, it may be film, DSLsl, iPhone and various editing softwares.  My standard size for prints begin with 16"x20".  Depending upon the "idea" matting and framing, presentations vary.
